19 - Whispers

The door creaks shut, thickening the silence
Two perspectives dance throughout the room
Both grasping for the other, their foundations unknown
In the heart of this room, truth is born
The swish of the whispers gathers outside these walls
It’s the same one point of view that’s always looking to be two
As they search for another, their minds come unglued
Bonded by these biased opinions, their malice renewed
But, the square of our circle is comforting in our sights
With this bed we’ve made we look to our lives
We created this place, where reality lays
It keeps us safe from the whispers
It keeps opinions at bay
It keeps our life on track
As we attack each day
It builds these walls thicker
For our lives to safely play
From the heart of this room
We watch the whispers fade away

Caution and the Wind

Her eyes dance in the brilliant reflection
The reflection of what she used to be
A softness creeps purposefully across my face
And It approaches so carefree… appeasingly
Alone it faces me, completely at ease
So I welcome its earnestness
I welcome the peace.
I welcome this feeling that her eyes perceive
I’ve lived every day for the moment
Past and future never played in this play
And as the ease she puts me in engulfs me
My future is now so important to see
For the first time in my life I have hoped for tomorrow
As caution and the wind dance away
For every moment she seizes my sanity
As...
My solace lies in those eyes, sleeps in her mind
And breaths by the life that she leads.

The Mask and My Mind.

The mask and my mind are two in the same
One makes the rules, the other plays the games
As your eyes lay the concrete around my swollen feet
I struggle for balance; I’m so weak in the knees
I know what I want, yet I need to wear what fits
I can’t be a cloud on your decisions, nor a weight on your risks
I know what I want and I know what you need
Again the mask and my mind they both disagree
So I stand here so proud for the time that was spent
And I model my future on the feelings you meant
The mask and my mind they’d love to stay and play
And even though it feels so right,
I know for you I need to walk away.

Echo

Another sleepless night is sleeping
My mind wanders, I'm smiling without dreaming
I hear an echo that I just can't place
Bouncing back and forth and it leaks.
It leaks a happiness that I have yet to dissect
From an uninhibited emotion that these pills mix up
There's no question left to ask
There's no answer left to find
Yet this echo takes shape and its taking what's mine
It's letting me know that what we feel is right
And it's your voice that plays safely in the blinding light
So as we do this dance from the dawn of life
With no questions left to ask
With no answers left to find
We both hang onto this moment as it slips through time

A Year Ago Today

A year ago… not today

Sitting in the same place

Looking at life the same way

Instinct grabbed a hold of the reins

Whisked my past away with pleasant pain

Woke me up, stood me up, and went away

I wonder why I was what I wasn’t.

I wasn’t what I always wanted to be

An elaborate excuse wearing my face

Made unusual mistakes, then made them ok

Played little games with my life, then walked away

Dangling sticky little strings to get in the way

Holding myself back on purpose, just to play the game

A year ago… was a lot like today

Except I know where I’ve been and I know who I am

Staring right at my future

As my past fades away.

14 - Lying for Change

Insides are rattling
Sweat seeps through my skin
I feel so passionate
I'm not so sure where to begin
I know I can make a difference
Bring some structure to their crumbling faces
But who's gonna listen?
They ask you for a donation
A deposit to their betterment
But I get no satisfaction out of empty promises
I'm hands on, like my hands on the wood that builds your shelter
Like my hands holding the spoon to your baby's mouth
But things will never change, it's made too hard to help
Ill keep throwing my coins in the fountain
You'll keep lying for change.

My minds so tired
Hope is sleeping with motivation
Her feet unencumbered with grief
Lying in the sands of monotony
No need to search for peace
Scribble scrabble thoughts

She cheats with procrastination
Scribble scrabble Mind
Uncovers his desires, Hope makes him choose a sign
Scribble scrabble dreams come true
When Hopes the starting line
My minds so tired
I can’t convince myself to care
I’ve stopped searching for answers
Hope’s never gotten me anywhere

12 - When a Confession Means Nothing

Sweat has set in, guilt is pouring out
You lift your watch, anticipation hurts
Mourning of the life your ignoring.
Your pain is constant and sharp
The world around you needs to suffer
You struggle hard to stay on course because
A confession means nothing without remorse
Some call it reconciliation, while on their knees
Others call it absolution, to get out of life for free
In this dream a dream world where sins all tease
A Confession means nothing if its done with such ease
To truly channel guilt you need self betrayal and fear
With an understated ease of self despair
Compulsion, Fear, Betrayal Guilt and Greed
All the ingredients of modern lifes everyday deed
So when you deal with yours in our time of repair
A confession means nothing if you really don't care.

You ever hear a song that puts a smile on your face?
Takes you away from this life, Takes you to another place

Unabashed and waiting for that change
A sing along to life with a perfect key change

You ever had the hair on the back of your neck standup?
Inspired by an emotion that someone else dreamt of
Well, take me this way

Life rolls down the window when life gets in the way
Gives you a breath of fresh air, gives you space to make a change

You always get that chance to play what you play
You always get the chance to get out of your own way

So when you hear that perfect song at the end of a long day
Remember that someone else captured your same moment

10 - Made to be Great

You ever feel like you were made for something great
Every time you get close something pulls
The other way
My statement of purpose never gets paid
My mind slips around on a foggy day
Some lines to my life never get made
Yet I wake every day to star in this play
About a confident man, a firm handshake and a smile
Searching for answers, and he's been searching a while
Who's found life is easier when you're made to bounce back
Rather than take the lead, Rather than stay on track
So I go to sleep every night
With only one thing to say
I was made to do something great,
But I let life get in the way.

Alarm clock blinks 12 o'clock shadow
The wrinkles I wear show I'm worn
Looking from the corner, the future so close
Modern crossroads, hmmm, is this what you chose?

The bags under my eyes…heavy, holding you
The feet on my legs tired, confused
Running so fast, quietly passing the past

Two steps away, pride fuels my pain
Which choice to make? Does it matter today?

That carries us through our master plan

Your bones chilled so cold at the loss of life
Humbly stalking that famous light
Searching for answers, wanting to do what's right.

Have they found the answer?
Our mind mistaken, our secrets not told
Is there a first time emotion that takes control
Answering the questions of life's Unknown?

The answers we seek are not meant to be found
To keep hope alive, to keep our feet on the ground
But when your eyes close and no dreams are around
Exhale that last breath, your answers been found.

Blinking blue light...buzzing...beeping
Lifted up, shaking off the night
My minds awake but my body's still dreaming
Perception has changed, there's new beginnings in sight

As darkness dies and blue sky survives
My thoughts are set to fast
But my mind is blank, and the wheel's stopped turning...
Still the sun comes up through tinted glass.

Reason rides on recklessness, addicted
Self afflicted happiness rings true.
Their run away by what's predicted
Is it me versus me, or me versus you?

Covering up where past mistakes pass
Devoted ambitions bleed deception

Sitting here, my insides so cold.

Wasted thoughts
Pressed for time

3 - Limbo

Welcome to the unsure
Is that what I want, Are you what I need?
Shaky legs on the Balance beam
Spilling thoughts of uncertainty

One foot in front of the other
Is that what I want, Is a straight line the answer?
Quivery voice on center stage
Mumbling lies of absurdity

Enjoy the lack of confidence
Wait is it back, Are my thoughts correct?
Walking forward yet something's pulling me back
Stumbling hastily, avoiding the cracks

Limbo's life's generous demise
Holding us back, formulating lies
What is my purpose becomes a statement of doubt
Because once Limbo comes in, it never gets out.

2 - Spark

Tunnels Disillusioned
Passages Magnified
The brilliant mind that dwells on the maze
Look left; turn right, Contradiction leads the way

You say to yourself the path is obvious
You pray to yourself the path is true
Down on both knees looking for peace
As the maze of the mind consumes you.

When we come to a point where the light goes dark
Blinded by darkness searching for a spark
No color around to help pull you through
We point those pale little fingers, convicting the few

We always fail to see, that fault lies in our heart
We let our own minds confuse us
Instead of doing our part
So when you next find yourself riddled with doubt
Climb deep in your dark soul, that spark never goes out.
