A Year Ago Today

A year ago… not today

Sitting in the same place

Looking at life the same way

Instinct grabbed a hold of the reins

Whisked my past away with pleasant pain

Woke me up, stood me up, and went away

I wonder why I was what I wasn’t.

I wasn’t what I always wanted to be

An elaborate excuse wearing my face

Made unusual mistakes, then made them ok

Played little games with my life, then walked away

Dangling sticky little strings to get in the way

Holding myself back on purpose, just to play the game

A year ago… was a lot like today

Except I know where I’ve been and I know who I am

Staring right at my future

As my past fades away.

Ryan, I like all of your poetry, but this one was inspiring. You're in a good place doing good things and we're all proud of you. I'm so glad you're my brother!
